Day-37: Cars, Golf, Lunch Out & A Relaxing Evening

Friday, November 1, 2013

Everyone slept well and awoke to a beautiful Southern California day. After coffee and breakfast the mission for the morning was delivery of the blue Lexus to the dealer for a little TLC following the 3,900 miles traveled over the past three weeks.  I followed Greg over to the dealership and honestly, I wasn’t sure they would allow my dirty GMC Yukon on the lot in the vicinity of row after row of Lexi.

               vs.

After finishing with (now get this) his car's appointment with the Lexus counselor, (yes in Southern California even the cars have counselors) Greg joined me in the Yukon and we proceeded directly to the local car wash, a good car wash I might add. My rental car needed something special after feeling under-appreciated at the Lexus dealership. The car was so dirty after the snow and dust of the recent travels, it was probably pounds lighter after the bath.

Our day’s activity was a scheduled golf event with the Carillo neighborhood golf group. I joined Greg and 14 neighbors at the Welk (as in Lawrence) Resort Fountains Course, an 18-Hole, Par 62, 4,000-yard executive course.

After meeting most of the players we were paired up and moved on to the course. Greg and I were paired with a mother/daughter team, Kathy/Pat, long time residents of Southern California. Let it be noted that this is the first time I have played golf with an 85-year old woman (or man for that matter) who then proceeded to birdie a hole of golf, amazing!

Though the outing is an individual event, I’m pleased to announce that Greg and I were big time winners, he with a gross score of 73 and me with a overall and net score of 54 with winnings worth 30 points and a $10 prize.

On the home front, Diane and Sheila took-off for a shopping and lunch outing. After a visit to the Camp Pendleton military exchange they returned to Carlsbad and dined at Pelly’s Fish Market & Cafe, a top-rated restaurant and fish market. Sheila dined on Ahi while Diane had a favorite, fish tacos.

By 6 PM we were all home. Greg fired up the grill and Diane made dinner preps. Tonight’s home cooked feast consisted of three favorites of mine; grilled pork chops (big pork chops), risotto and green beans. Greg and I continued to work on the over-supply situation with a bottle or so of wine, before, during and after dinner.

As with last night, sometime before bedtime we all returned to the ice cream bar, more pistachio and more chocolate candy caramel. Decadent? Well yes.
